Winging It at Christmas…

It’s the 1st December. The big day is just around the corner.  And according to a poll* out today, we can officially play Christmas tunes and experience less disdain from the grumbling few that have had their fill of Mariah belting out all she wants for Christmas in November (confession – Michael Buble has been singing White Christmas to me in my car for the past two weeks… Merry Christmas Mr Buble).

I’ve had the opportunity to meet, work with and be inspired by a number of brilliant, independent brands this year. Brands being led by people who have thrown caution to the wind, grabbed life with both hands and set up on their own – their passion, experience and determination woven into the fabric of every product.

There’s been a lot about shopping small on Insta in the last couple of weeks not least from the clarion call of Holly Tucker at Holly & Co.  And it’s about so much more than just the products.  Take time to note the way the products are packaged and wrapped when they come to you. Just yesterday, I received the most beautifully wrapped package from one brand. Lovingly hand tied. Exquisitely wrapped with a hand written card from the seller to me, the customer. I felt special just receiving it. Even though the products inside weren’t for me. It’s the care, attention and, dare I say, love that has been poured into the product and everything about it that sets it apart.

To this end, I give you the first Winging It Christmas special. A selection of brands and products that have hit the mark for me this year not just for their products. But for everything they stand for.

You Do You. Sarah Knight. £12.99

From the ‘anti-guru’ author of the smash hit The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k and the New York Times bestseller Get Your Sh*t Together.

Nuff said. Sign me up.

Good Tees. Selfish Mother and The FMLY Store. From £30

Where it all began… the original Winging It tee has had an upgrade. Gold and glittery font… Need I say more. And if you’re off duty from Winging It there are plenty of other options at The FMLY Store. Every good tee sale supports a specific charity too. Perfect Christmas gifting all round.

Hello Day Planner. £46

If you’re a stationery obsessive like me, Hello Day is for you (I’m all about the self-gifting too). I mean just look at it. The planner comes in four seriously stylish designs – no surprise given the lady behind the brand is a bona fide interior designer.

HYP Candles. From £25

An acronym for, Help Your Pregnancy, HYP was founded by hypno-birthing teacher Rebecca when trying to find the perfect anchor for her clients’ practice. You don’t have to be with child to appreciate the goodness of the candles however.

LANAIBLO. From £99.99

Serial Hair Entrepreneur and Founder of LanaiBLO, Katie-Jane Goldin has poured her years of experience into new hairdryer brand, LanaiBLO – her mission – to ensure everyone can enjoy good hair even at home. The LanaiBLO Professional Hairdryer is available in Black, Pink and White and is £99.99 or £120 for the
personalised version.

Vinegar & Brown Paper. Apothecary Bottles. From £24.95

Andy Poplar was an award winning advertising creative. He decided to quit his job because he needed to do something different with his life.

And Vinegar & Brown Paper was born. So many amazing products to choose from. Each carefully created by Andy’s artisanal hands.

Root and Flower. Wonderbalm. £22

Root and Flower create raw, organic, 100% natural remedies and skincare in small batches using traditional artisan techniques. And Jenny, the lady behind the brand, is one of life’s gifts. Her love of life is poured into every product she creates.

For Just One Day Children’s Party Atelier. Tees from £12.45

The meticulous packaging I referred to above… all Becky’s, the lady behind For Just One Day, handiwork. I ordered the Mermaid tees in rose gold font for my girls. They are exquisite.

Becky has spent years designing kids wear for the British highstreet and being obsessed by kids products, going to festivals, designing spaces at festivals, and throwing amazing parties for her children. This is borne out in her wonderful brand.

The ESCAPE Bag. Forest Bound. Via Holly & Co in the UK. £89

I mean just Look. At. It. The ESCAPE Canvas Utility Bag line is inspired by the many perfectly worn-in, vintage canvas tool bags that Forest Bound have uncovered at flea markets and estate sales throughout the years. The brand hopes to create timeless, go-to pieces that pay tribute to all the beautiful canvas bags from days of old.

“Every Time a Bell Rings an Angel Gets His (Her) Wings.”  Zuzu Bailey. It’s a Wonderful Life. 1946

Winging It at Christmas. Enjoy.
